Juno, Ellen PageWhile iTunes users have become used to seeing selections from , DVD offerings from other studios have not come as quickly as some might have liked.  But it looks like things may soon change.

Just today, Fox made available for download via the popular site.  This is the same day the Oscar-nominated film was placed on store and rental shelves.  It’s likely the studio will allow more current titles to be sold in the future, but no immediate plans have been announced.

Meanwhile, Paramount has also started to dabble in ‘s waters as well.  The company recently offered up for purchase shortly after it debuted on DVD in February.

At last check, Juno (on sale for $14.99) was iTunes’ top seller.

McCain Obama Clinton Oscar

Listen up, you entertainment junkies. Once again, the real world has encroached upon our precious escapist media.

The Hollywood Reporter is (aptly) reporting that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will shirk tradition next year and announce its nominations a full two days later than usual. Since 2004, when the Oscars were moved from March to February, the nominations have been revealed on a Tuesday in the middle of January. However, the planned date conflicts with the upcoming Presidential Inauguration and has been rescheduled.

I personally applaud the Academy for having the foresight to avoid such a conflict of attention—some would likely have trouble deciding which to watch live and which to read in the following day’s paper. One can only imagine, though, a future in which a newly sworn-in president, filled with pride and hope for the future, would turn to his or her constituents and say: “And now, the nominees for best actor.”

Come on, think of the ratings!

Lindsay Lohan is getting back into the acting swing. Not only has the young performer snagged a coveted role in Manson Girls, but she’s now signed on to do a new, more low-budget film role.

The former child star will play a nymphomaniac waitress in the upcoming Florence. The producers asked Lohan to perform a topless sex scene in the flick, an offer Lindsay quickly countered. Not only will she go topless, she’ll do it one better - full frontal. And though Linds won’t get paid much for baring it all so publicly, one insider says she’s ready to prove herself as a “mature actress.”

Valkyrie cast

After viewing a teaser trailer for Valkyrie, I now see why Tom Cruise’s film may be in need of a few delays.

In this WWII movie, the actor plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg - a German officer who plots to take down Adolf Hitler.  Granted, I haven’t seen the film yet, but I highly doubt the character ever took voice lessons by watching videos of Mission Impossible.

You can listen to his laughable performance after the jump.

Prom Night

Here are some possible suggestions for your upcoming weekend:

Prince of PersiaAlthough his relationship with Kate Bosworth flamed out, I don’t know that anyone can accuse of being afraid of commitment.

According to the New York Post, the actor is now set to star in in his third trilogy.  Bloom will follow up his work in The Lord of the Rings and the franchises with Prince of Persia.  Orlando reportedly beat out rising stud to play the title character in this video game adaptation.

Interestingly enough, not only is Persia another Disney creation, it’s being produced by Bloom’s old Pirates boss:  Jerry Bruckheimer.  I guess the guy really likes familiarity!

Tom Cruise, ValkyrieRight now, is somewhere hoping the third time really is a charm.

After initially receiving a June 27 release date, the actor’s next film is now scheduled to open next year.  That’s after Valkyrie had already been pushed back to the fall for production reasons.

Although an October premiere might have been given the film Oscar consideration, the studio claims the new Feb. 13th slot will be in the best interest of the WWII drama.  That decision will allow Cruise to take advantage of the President’s Day weekend.

Two films once slated for that same 2009 date have since made other plans (The Pink Panther 2, The Wolfman).  While these departures may have allowed Valkyrie to slip right in, that Friday will still have stiff competition.  Confessions of a Shopaholic (starring ) and the latest version of Friday the 13th will also be fighting for audience dollars.

Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie also stars Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh and .

President George W. Bush , director Oliver Stone is going to take on the subject that has created strife, laughs, tears and terror - the presidency of a man named George W. Bush.

At that time (January), Stone said he was going to create “a fair, true portrait” of the man we all call Dubya. It’s now April, and the film is making ready for its start date (the 21st). The script has already been given to Bush biographers. Okay, I haven’t read it. However, according to some reports the script is said to depict Bush as “foul-mouthed,” “obsessed,” and shows a complicated relationship between himself and Bush, Sr.
